Riessersee (Lake Riesser)

Lake Riesser (Germ. Riessersee) is located in southwest Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Germany. It was created artificially in a forest clearing in the Middle Ages. There are a fantastic view to the Garmisch-Partenkirchen valley on one side and to Alpspitze, Waxenstein and Zugspitze in Bavarian Alps around the lake on the other side. The lake itself hosted the speed skating events and 10 of the 37 ice hockey games for the 1936 Winter Olympics. Adjacent to the lake, the bobsleigh events took place. In winter the frozen lake is still used for skating and curling.
