Bloody Mary and Black Garlic Ketchup

I have got quite a few good and interesting things in my kitchen this month, but have not got round to photographing them as natural lighting is poor, so I will share them next month.

Still for In My Kitchen this August we have plenty of zucchini known as courgettes in the UK and Summer Squash known as Marrow in the UK.

The ones showcased here are Courgette Gold Rush F1 ; Courgette Tristar  and Courgette Squash Striato di Napoli  which  think is more marrow than squash; and Courgette Tondo di Piacenza See the recipes made last month with courgettes aka zucchini from my garden plot aka allotment2kitchen
Australian Zucchini Slice
Courgette Zucchini, Apricot and Pistachio Bread
Oven Baked Lemon Zucchini and New Potato Salad
Roasted Courgette Layered 'Lasagne'

Roasted Zucchini and Popped Black Beans salad
Zucchini Chocolate Brownies
Zucchini Broad Beans and Peas Soup
Zucchini Frittata is made with  Courgette Tondo di Piacenza
In My Kitchen are cute little bottles of Azada flavoured olive oil, including orange, garlic and chilli.  These will be used for those special salads.
In My Kitchen, courtesy of my nephew are some Halen Mon Bloody Mary Ketchup and Black Garlic Ketchup.  I am hoping to make some at home too.
In My Kitchen Coconut Blossom Syrup which some of you may remember from last month as it was used in my popular vegan Quadruple Coconut Fudge; also a bar of Sicilian Hazelnut Chocolate Bar from Seed and Bean.
Some Tortilla Chips for Friday night snacking; and a can of Artichoke Hearts in Brine.
In My Kitchen, you will always find Marigold Swiss Vegetable Bouillon.  I tend to buy the large tub, but when I cannot find it in the shops - I pick up the little one.
In My Kitchen, Soyitoo Soy Whip  to use in place of dairy whipped cream.  I am not vegan or lactose intolerant, but I do love trying different products, and I don't mind this having used it in the past.  Also some BonPom Cocoa Powder.
In My Kitchen, Good Carma Flavour Fusion Chilli Flavour.  I picked this up when I went to Swansea Vegfest last month. Good Carma Foods is well known for have flavour shakers (similar to grated Parmesan cheese - but vegan) known as Fusion Flavour.  I have enjoyed this sprinkled over a pasta salad.
And finally some Asda fruit teabags.  I am a sucker for names like this: Apple Crumble, Rhubarb and Custard.  The flavours are spot on all of them, but I am still not  quite sure about the Chocolate Orange.

I am sharing this with Sherry Pickings for In My Kitchen series, please do join in.

  1. We have courgettes coming out of our ears at the moment. It looks like you have too! We seem to be playing an endless game of what to make with them.... x

    1. Kate, You are so spot on about the courgettes - but we are trying to enjoy them whilst in season, its the marrows that have surprised me, we have so many this year that I have been giving them away - unlike the courgette that have been coming but not as many as year before.

  2. Hi Shaheen
Thanks so much for joining in again this month Always nice to see you in IMK You have so many goodies in your kitchen I love the look of those ketchups you have there. So you grow your own veg.? How marvellous. I'm not a fan of cream in a can :) so how is the soy one? Funny how we use a lot of Italian terms here in Oz. Due to the migrants in the 50s as you said. I love flavoured oils too. I have quite a few. 'See' you next month. Cheers sherry

    1. Thanks Sherry. I have to admit we don't usually buy cream in a can, but I like to have it on hand sometimes for culinary experimentations. The soy one is okay, but the whippy ness does not last long, best eaten within 10 minutes i think. Yes it is interesting that in Oz you do use a lot of Italian terms, I think they do in the US.

  3. Coconut blossom syrup sounds intriguing (and highly specialised). I can't imagine how many blossoms are involved in that. Always interesting to take a tour as I have a friend who is new to the UK and is vegetarian so I can tell her about new products and direct her to your blog. cheers xxx

    1. Thanks Fiona, yes it does - but I am not sure about the making process, but it is quite rich in colour and taste, not coconutty at all. It is a little pricey too, not something I would ordinarily get.

Thanks for referring your friend to my blog, that is very nice of you - maybe I will make her acquaintance through blogging

  4. Those Asda teas look great and the names would have drawn me right in. The ketchup flavours are intriguing too and I will have to keep an eye out for the soy cream - I never liked regular whipped cream but I am terrible for wanting to try all veganised products!

    1. Thanks Kari. Yes the names are def. heart string pullers. I hope you find the soy cream, its okay to have for occasions, but just to warn you it is best used within the month, as it does not last long once opened. PS I am not even vegan and i love trying vegan products. Ray a fellow blogger has sent me some vegan egg product to try, I am curious.

  5. Shaheen, despite your finicky lighting (which I totally understand; Oklahoma presents ever-changing, challenging "photo ops", too), the photo of your zucchini is absolutely gorgeous! Your table with the floral motif also caught my eye (great background for your goodies), as did your map in the last pic. Seems to me like you've made the very best out of what life has presented you, photographically and cooking wise! By the way, I'm partial to tortilla chips for snacking and artichoke hearts for anything. :) xo

    1. Thank you Kim. The floral table was picked up from a garage sale a couple of years back, I think the design is called BARGE Painting traditionally a craft for narrow boats. I don't ever think about it as its for background to lift whatever I have into the air to catch the natural light outside. So thank you for noticing. As for the map, that was taken at work, its my durable desk map and I do love it.

Thank you so much for such a lovely comment, warmed my heart.

    1. Your really kind, thank you - please make the recipe your own and don't follow to the word :)

  7. You've found some really interesting things of late! Every time I buy any vegan canned cream, it seems to bung up the nozzle in about two squirts and I've had to throw the whole thing away. Maybe my bad luck! I love the sound of black garlic ketchup, and the look of it particularly.

    1. Thanks Joey. I have not had a problem with the nozzle and hope i don't that would be annoying; and a waste of many to boot. The black garlic ketchup was very reminsce of tamarind sauce just sweeter and not at all garlicky.

  8. Would love to try those fruit teas though maybe not the chocolate - and black garlic ketchup sounds intriguing. I really love that floral table in your photo (which you discussed in your answer to Kim). I think the little bottles of olive oil look a perfect size as I like that sort of thing but then I tire of finding uses for it and want to try another one. And your courgette efforts are impressive.

    1. I love chocolate tea, but not so much choc orange fruit teas, but I will not waste - i will finish them off. Thank you also for the compliment about the barge stool table, i never really thought about it in its own right to mention on IMK, i think I should - next month I will put it in the spotlight.

Yes the courgette extravaganza continues....it will stop, not sure when though! I am trying to enjoy homegrown while in season.

  9. What delicious looking fruit teas. I like adding fruit teas to my iced teas in the summer months as well as having them hot in the cooler weather. All those summer squashes look divine.

  10. What a great haul of zucchini's Shaheen, I'm sure they'll be eaten up immediately. I am totally in love with the coconut syrup, I think I may have to keep my eyes out for some here in Oz as I just love coconut sugar :) I'm intrigued with that chilli flavor fusion - is it like powdered parmesan in a shaker? Sounds interesting x

    1. Thanks MissFood Fairy, still got loads more coming.
Yes I guess I would describe it as powdered parmesan in a shaker, but obviously vegan as its made with nuts. This one was paricularly flavourful.

  11. I Love the variety of the courgettes, they are so cute. I'm also very much interested in the ketchups. I just bought some black garlic and am wondering, if I could make such a sauce with it. Loads of lovely other stuff as well!
