.....the piles on my desk. I know, you might have thought I was going to expound about something much more meaningful, like Easter, given that it's Easter weekend. However, if I was going to talk about Easter, it would just go something like this.....
Mini Eggs, Mini Eggs, chocolate, chocolate, chocolate, food, food, me lmao because my kids said they did still want to do an Easter egg hunt but I was to "hide them really good this year" (even though there's still one outstanding from last year that no one has found) and I will abide by their wishes except this time I'll make a list of where I hide them, and they'll give up after an hour or so, so that's more chocolate for me, chocolate bunny ears, Mini Eggs, food, food, chocolate, chocolate.
Yeah, and that's not much of a post is it? The only thing it did for me was to make me wander into the kitchen to grab a handful of Mini Eggs. So, I thought I'd talk a bit about the piles on my craft desk. Most specifically, this pile....
and this pile......
There are other piles on my desk as well because I'm a Dirty Crafting Pig who likes to wallow in my supplies and craft in an 8" x 6" spot...but those other piles aren't pertinent to this conversation.
So, let me ask you, do you ever feel like you've reached the Maximum Level of Crafty Supplies Capacity? You know, where you're like, "OMG. There is not one other thing I could possibly need. It's all right here. All. Right. Here." Like aside from the basic supplies, glue, tape runner, blades, pop dots etc., you realize that even if you buy NOTHING else ever, you will still have more supplies than you could ever use, even if you are suddenly able to quit your job(s) (but, dear god, not in a win-the-lottery type of scenario because that would basically render this topic pointless), and get hired as the exclusive cardmarker for the ruler of a small country who sends every one of her subjects a card on their birthday, you would still have enough materials to accomplish that feat.....like forever.
Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a teensy bit. But not much. Thing is, even though I have THAT MUCH STUFF, I can't seem to stop myself from buying more. And while I've put a moratorium
on buying 6 x 6 paper pads (because I have about 100 of them) and embellishments (because I never use them) that doesn't seem to have stopped me from purchasing dies and clear/rubber stamps....which then get put away, never to see the light again. So, that basically means I now not only have cardmaking as a hobby, I can list buying cardmaking supplies (and never using them) as a hobby as well.
And that brings us back to the piles on my desk. The first pile is a pile of never-used stamps I've bought/won/been gifted and the second pile is a pile of never-used dies I have bought/won/been gifted. I've brought these out of the darkness and back into the light. Which is to say that I've built these precarious jumbles on my desk, to not only be annoying (since one slight bump sends them avalanching onto the floor) but to force me to actually USE said supplies. And that way, both my hobbies will actually have a purpose.
And speaking of that purpose.....
I used a Stamping Bella rubber stamp for this card. I'll admit, I didn't use any dies for this card....except those stitched shape dies. And those really don't count seeing as I use them on almost every card, and therefore, aren't a part of the die pile. So now, according to the Crafty Pile Rules, I can put that stamp away, which makes that pile a touch smaller. And, I've vowed to leave those piles on my desk, and only put items away once I've actually used them. *glances over at craft desk* *Sigh*, it's a daunting task but getting to it will certainly give me a sense of accomplishment, and I do like crafting for a purpose (other than my own enjoyment, that is).
Besides, Scrapfest is coming up in a couple of weeks. It's something I look forward to attending every year. I really don't want to be wracked with guilt every time I pick up something with the intention of buying it (especially seeing as there are both dies and stamps in their respective piles from year's past Scrapfests). So, I've got to whittle those piles down a bit.
Well, enough in order to perch my new purchases on top without the whole thing crashing down, at least. And then I can wallow away some more.
Oink, oink.

ReplyDeleteHA! You crack me up. I can soooooooo relate to your post. I did a MAJOR craft clean out a while back and got rid of a LOT. Almost all my rubber stamps went, as did papers I knew I wouldn't use, ditto embellisments. I bought a bunch of transparent plastic boxes, put them in my closet and organized what I had to fit in those. What I buy now HAS to fit in what space I've allocated. If it doesn't, something else I like less has to go. I confess to having a thing for those inexpensive Chinese dies, but I've reached the saturation point on those. Each of us just has to get a system that works for us. This is why I like digital! It doesn't take up 'real' space!!! Oh, if you find that country that needs a cardmaker for every citizen, can I be your assistant?
ReplyDeleteP.S. I forgot to comment on the card! It's super cute, love your coloring and paper choices. This is where you're so good...I would not have thought to put that center blue with the floral background, and yet it works fantastic!!! Like how you layered behind the sentiment, too; a very nice touch.
ReplyDeleteWell now I have dried out my keyboard after spitting my coffee out laughing at your description of MY desk lol I can comment on your gorgeous card, love the image and the pretty papers you have used :)

Actually I'm eating a mini egg right now as I type- and it's only 8am. On the topic of egg hunts, one of our unfound chocolate eggs (in foil) appeared suddenly on the patio one January and it had beak marks in it.
ReplyDeleteYour bunny card is very pretty and beautifully coloured and I like choice of the floral paper. Thanks for joining The Library.
Bwahahahaha - beak marks! That totally made me lol. Happy Easter to you and thank you for the lovely comment.

Oh I love this post - absolutely fantastic! I have just completed my egg hunt (or rather lindt chocolates hunt), but I find it is so much more fun to hide the chocolates for somebody else to find! I just get frustrated and give up lol.
ReplyDeleteAs for the crafting situation, I also have stuff everywhere (mainly because I need a new shelving unit to actually be able to put stuff away!) and so tend to craft in a 6x8" area of an entire room lol. However, I had a plan for using those dies/stamps that you just have to have, but then never actually get around to using. I made a list of my supplies, and when I am making a card, I go down to the next thing on the list that is appropriate and then it can be marked as used :) (Of course it doesn't always work).
Thank you so much for sharing this lovely cute card with us at Aud Sentiments, and please do not hide that stamp too far away, it is just far too cute,

ReplyDeleteI think we're crafting twins! I started a stash diet on 1st April. It's not going well. Naughty Clearly Besotted had a new release yesterday and I may have accidentally bought one of their mind B stamp sets (the scuba one). Oops. Loving your card and of course especially the bunnies. Super cute and adorable card, love the bunny!! I could have easily written your post as I have quite an addiction buying myself, and have no where to put it all...but it is a fun addiction, gee who else has THREE Cricuts but me!! Half the fun of card making is the buying!! Anyhow, thank you for joining our challenge at The Sisterhood....I really enjoyed your post!

Oh, my goodness! Meet your crafting soulmate! I try to keep my work area to about 12x15" and the rest of my craft table looks like a tornado hit! LOL Just one of the pitfalls of creativity, in my opinion. Your card is worth it as well! Those bunnies are adorable and perfect for my Spring Flowers challenge. Thank you for playing with us at the Sisterhood of Crafters and hope you will join us again soon.
ReplyDeleteYep...those piles we all have. But I am not going to Scrapfest this year so I will not accumulate too many more stamps and dies until I use a few more up :) Great card and post :)
