2022: Decided it was time to re-visit this series via audio, because sometime quirky characters are exactly what you need.
2013: Each chapter is a story in the life of the Professor who is funny and awkward and endearing. It's set in the world of academia in the rarefied air of philology and Smith's humor is dry and understated. I just love his humor and some of the book was laugh-out-loud funny. Some of the stories are so random and odd and that's their appeal. The chapter where he and his fellow professors learn to play tennis from a book and then nobody can win is so funny. Paul Hecht narrated and did German and Italian accents and was great.
