Happy Monday!
Brady and I are currently enjoying some EPIC mountain biking in Whistler,BC!!! Our little guy is, I’m sure, getting into all sorts of trouble with his Grandma back home as he spends his first days (and nights) away from Mommy and Daddy. We’ve been having a ton of fun barreling down the mountain on our bikes, but we are SO, SO eager to get back home to our favorite little man!
While packing and preparing last week for our mountain bike adventure, I was able to carve out an hour to tackle this super quick and easy DIY project for our Outdoor Makeover Challenge. If you need to catch up on all of the details you can read all about it here.
After completing this GORGEOUS Pottery Barn Knockoff Table, I knew I needed some pretty stellar outdoor dishes to set it with. I did a bit of online shopping for some dishes and came up with a ton fabulous options (you can check out my favorites here). I finally settled on some plain white ones. There were SO many beautiful colours to choose from, but I really felt like the crisp white would add some contrast to the other pops of colour that I plan to bring to our table. I also liked the idea of being able to simply change out the pillows and some accessories and still be able to match my dishes to the space. So, instead of committing to something more bold with my entire dish set, I decided to add some colour with some charger plates underneath.
I started with these wooden plates that I found on Amazon for a crazy good deal.
Armed with some acrylic craft paint, some small craft brushes and some painter’s tape, I set to work transforming these plain wooden plates into my own colourful masterpieces! I didn’t measure a thing, but just randomly placed the tape onto the plates to create shapes and lines. For the polka-dots, I dipped the wrong end of my brush into the paint to make the small ones & just free-handed the bigger ones. In the end, this is what I came up with…
I’ll admit that without much of a plan, I had my doubts, but I really am SO thrilled with how these turned out!
I’ll leave you with just a peek of how this is all coming together…
Wishing you all SUCH a lovely week!!!

Hahahaha – you are much too sweet! I didn’t put a finish on top since I don’t intend to use them for food, but I’m sure there must be a food safe protective finish out there you could use 🙂

I absolutely love these! I stumbled upon your blog through The Happy Housie’s FB page and have been searching through every since. So much inspiration.
For the plates, can you wash them/eat with them without the paint coming off?

Thank you SO much Leanna! I’m thrilled that you’re feeling inspired! The plates aren’t coated with anything to make them waterproof or food safe, but I think that Mod Podge makes a brush on coating that might work for that. Really, we just use them as decorative chargers. I wipe them down after each use with a dish cloth (though I don’t submerge them in water) and haven’t had any problems with pain chipping off. Thanks again Leanna! I hope you find a ton of projects to love here!
