"A very large sparrow, Abert's Towhee inhabits riparian corridors in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona. Plain and rather secretive, Abert's Towhee stays in its breeding range year-round."
I don't often have visits from this wonderful bird but when I do I usually notice him flitting around on the ground rather quickly when there is feeding beneath my front yard feeder (I've been able to take a shot or two at times). He doesn't stay still long. How delightful to see one perched on my back fence, and to hear his call! Enjoy!
Joining in with Stewart's Wild Bird Wednesday and Anni's Bird d'Pot.
And now a bit of video so you can enjoy his call as well....

A beautiful little bird and I enjoyed the video with the call. Does the bird always flick its tail when it calls?
Loved seeing this bird on the video clip
Hello Marie!:) Isn't it wonderful when birds one rarely gets a chance to see, come visiting. Even the plain ones are a pleasure to see. Thank you for the vídeo clip Marie, it's always nice to know their song.
That was good of it to sit still long enough for you to get a shot.
Hello Marie, great bird and sighting. I enjoyed the photos and video. Have a happy day!

Well spotted Marie. That's a new one on me It's an interesting contact call, as if there was another one close by?
What a great post. I love that you were knowledgeable enough to ID this little guy.... And your video skills, I must confess, make me a bit envious! ( great job on them AND the stills!
your fence is very popular :) Wish I had a fence like that :)
Marie, your link at Bird D´Pot goes back to Anni. Just wanted to let you know.
Now that was pure luck, that you say little birdy right when he came to visit. Interesting info, as well.
Nice looking little bird - shows you don't always have to have bright colours.
