Bookmark (or pin) this Make-Ahead French Toast Casserole Recipe. Simple to make, nutritious, and packable – it’s perfect for school lunch (and after-school snack…and ahem…dinner on the nights you have no dinner inspiration). From make-ahead French Toast Casserole (recipe below) to individual French Toast Cinnamon Sticks (recipe below) – all you need are basic ingredients you already have in your kitchen. You can even make these recipes cooking with kids activities…
Make-Ahead French Toast Casserole Recipe
Ingredients:
- 6 eggs
- 1 loaf egg bread
- 1 cup of milk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- cooking spray
- In a bowl, crack and beat 6 whole eggs.
- Add in splash of milk to egg mixture.
- Add in vanilla to egg mixture. Stir to mix well.
- Spray 9 x 13 baking pan
- Cube egg bread and put in baking pan
- Pour egg/milk mixture on to bread. Stir around to ensure bread is covered in egg mixture.
- Cover with foil (or baking pan lid) overnight.
- Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Bake French Toast casserole for 40 minutes until puffed and golden.
French Toast Ideas
- You could make a batch and freeze in an airtight container. Then, take out of freezer and lightly toast at breakfast or for a brunch.
- Top with a drizzle of maple syrup.
- Add cooked bacon or cooked ham.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon.
- Serve with cut fruit on the side. Like bananas, apples, oranges, strawberries, blueberries, grapes, etc…
- Serve with yogurt.
French Toast Cinnamon Sticks Recipe
Individual portion
Ingredients
- 2 slices of Bread (whole wheat, multi-grain, gluten-free, white…your choice)
- 2 eggs
- 1 tbsp 2% milk
- Dash of cinnamon
- 1 tsp butter
Instructions
- Beat eggs in a bowl.
- Add milk.
- Add dash of cinnamon.
- Mix well to combine ingredients.
- Turn on stove to medium heat. In frying pan, melt butter.
- Place one slice of bread into egg mixture. Turn over. Coat both sides with egg mixture. Transfer bread to frying pan.
- Fry for 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown.
Aside: when I was little…my Mom used to cut my toast into sticks (she called them soldiers). Somehow, eating a stick of toast was much more fun than eating regular toast.

French toast is awesome, and if you have a waffle maker, cook the bread in that instead of the fry pan, they are so good done in the waffle maker, I do this at least twice a month for my granddaughter!!

Make-Ahead French Toast Casserole sounds nice, always good when you can prepare ahead of time. I probably douse mine in maple syrup, not sure if bacon would still fit then flavour-wise.
